How Natural Elements Affect a Photograph https://www.middlebrooksphoto.com/blog/2013/10/how-natural-elements-affect-a-photograph

As photographers there are many elements of a photograph that we can control: lighting, composition, depth of field, etc.  However, during event photography it is impossible to control the natural elements such as sun, clouds and yes - rain.

However, we should welcome the rain, as it can create powerful mood in images that is almost impossible to create otherwise.  During the final cross country meet of the season (for my JV runner anyway) we had a light and persistent rain that provided a unique mood to my photos.  The natural elements, when combined with some post processing made for powerful sports photography.

Enjoy.

When I Grow Up https://www.middlebrooksphoto.com/blog/2013/2/when-i-grow-up
When I Grow Up Photo ProjectPrek_auction-022113-024 Each year, Oak Mountain Academy holds an annual auction to raise funds that help support the operations of the school.  Each class is responsible for putting together an "auction project" that will be sold in the live auction at the event.  This will be the second time in the past few years that I will lend assistance with a photography-related project.

This year our Pre-K class discussed what profession they would like to have when they grow up.  For the auction project, we decided to extend this theme to include a photograph of each child dressed in the full adult-sized clothing of their chosen profession.  The photographs will be arranged into a collage that will be output on a large format print and auctioned during the event.

The children were adobrable in the professional wear and everyone had a great time making the photos.  The setup garnered a lot of attention from other students in the lower school, where were all interested to see what was taking place.

I'm looking forward to the auction event on March 9th to see how the project does in the auction.  Happy bidding!

Amy & Jeff Engagement Portraits https://www.middlebrooksphoto.com/blog/2012/12/amy-jeff-engagement-portraits

This weekend I had the great honor of photographing my niece and her fiance's engagement session.  What a fun session.  As always, I tried to keep it light and fun - and I certainly think we accomplished that. The clouds provided soft, natural light at the beginning of the session and we added light as it became necessary.  When the drizzle began to fall, we switched up the location to the covered porch. Thanks for allowing me to play a part in such an exciting time in both of your lives!

I also want to extend a special thanks to my brother-in-law and sister-in-law for the use of their home and property which provided a beautiful backdrop for such a special couple!
